SCOPE
Beginning as a like-for-like replacement of the lab building's unconditioned lab hood make-up AHUs, the project's scope drastically increased when it was identified that there were humidity issues in the building that was making less than desirable conditions for students. The $15 million budget project included the replacement of the entire HVAC systems serving the lab areas including make-up AHUs, supply air distribution, teaching hood and student hood exhaust fans and ductwork, a new hot water boiler plant, and all new DDC control system. Other deficiency corrections included the installation of new ceilings to insure adequate air changes were provided, new LED lighting throughout the lab areas, corridor ceiling replacements, new low-flow lab hoods, a complete replacement of the fire alarm system and elevator upgrades.

Center for Human Genetics
SCOPE
Clemson University is currently working in partnership with the Greenwood Genetics Center on education and research activities associated with human diagnostics and central nervous system research in cognitive development, autism, birth defects and epigenetics. The current educational component of the Center is a doctoral program in human genetics. This building will serve as a research and education center to expand the existing doctoral program to include a nationally competitive research and development team and enhance the existing research capabilities of the J.C. Self Research Institute of Human Genetics. The project allows for expansion of the existing research capabilities that the university has in Greenwood and will attract research and development companies engaged in human genetics research.
The 17,000 square foot Clemson University Center for Human Genetics sits on approximately 2.4 acres of the 16.7 acre tract owned by Clemson, and is sited to allow for future campus buildings. The building accommodates eight (8) each 800 SF BSL-2 labs, bottle wash, autoclave, offices, breakroom, conference/seminar rooms, and lobby/public spaces. The building was designed to fulfill requirements for LEED Silver Certification

SCOPE
Size: 187,322 SF Existing Space; 206,538 SF Future Space
EDi is providing electrical design consulting services for the renovation of an existing 250,000 square-foot building built in the mid-1960s. The renovation will provide a new Center for Advanced Manufacturing facility for Guilford Technical Community College. The space will be utilized for welding, machining, transportation, automotive, and autobody learning centers.
EDi engineers conducted detailed field investigations of the existing building electrical system components to determine condition may and power requirements for each piece of existing equipment. Design of following systems is included in the scope of work: building lighting, emergency and exit lighting, power, fire alarm, telecommunications, site lighting, blue light system, and low voltage infrastructure.

HVAC and Fire Alarm Study and Replacements in Multiple Buildings
SCOPE
EDi completed a study for VGCC evaluating the existing HVAC & Electrical systems for 7 of the 10 main campus buildings, and Fire Alarm systems for all 10 buildings. The majority of buildings were originally built in the mid-1970s and include classrooms, vocational shops, administrative, bookstore, lecture halls, daycare, and civic center functions.
As part of the study, priorities were developed based on the age of equipment, building use, and construction schedules. EDi created cost estimates for each of the buildings including HVAC system replacement and associated electrical work, complete lighting fixture replacement, and fire alarm system replacement. In addition, an asbestos assessment was performed to determine the existing conditions of the buildings and to develop the costs to be included in the overall project budget. Based on these developed priorities and costs, the design phase scope of work and associated project/construction schedules were developed that met the College's budget and needs.
The project is currently in the first phase of design, which is the fire alarm system replacement for all 10 buildings. Based on the coordination with the College's classroom and facility schedules, the construction is targeted to begin in May 2019 with the majority of work completed during the summer session. The HVAC/Lighting Replacement construction will be completed in a separate phase during the summer of 2020 for two of the campus buildings. The existing HVAC system for the 35,000 sq. ft., 3-floor Bookstore, Lecture Hall, LRC building consisting of a multi-zone AHU, air-cooled chiller, and gas-fired boiler system will be replaced with a DX-cooling VAV system with high-efficient gas-fired boilers. The 23,500 sq. ft. Classroom, Office and Daycare building has existing humidity issues with the HVAC system consisting of multiple blower coil units. The system will be replaced with a DX-cooling VAV system with individual AHUs for the separate functions within the building and gas-fired boilers. The existing fluorescent light fixtures will be replaced with high-efficient LED fixtures throughout both buildings
