EDi Welcomes Industry and Technology instructors from Wake County Public School System

This week, EDi welcomed Industry and Technology instructors from Wake County Public School System for discussion and a tour of the office. The instructors wanted to gain insight from our engineers on the design and construction process and to better understand the knowledge base students need for this industry. The instructors teach students attending Wake County Schools who are focusing on engineering and drafting in the STEM curriculum. (week of August 20, 2018)
A Giant Step Toward Ending and Preventing Homelessness –
The New Oak City Center Project Breaks Ground

Oak City Center
Construction of the New Oak City Center – a one-stop resource for the homeless – is underway, kicked-off with the recent groundbreaking ceremony. A formerly abandoned warehouse next to Wake County's South Wilmington Men's Shelter, the New Oak City Center will provide a single place where the homeless can obtain information, learn about multiple resources, and receive services such as on-site medical care, mental health and substance abuse care as well as have access to showers, a laundromat, computers, and telephones. This project has been years in the making and is a collaborative effort by Wake County, the City of Raleigh, Raleigh/Wake Partnership to End and Prevent Homelessness, and Catholic Charities.

EDi provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering systems design and will follow the project through construction. EDi is pleased to be a part of this collaborative community project.

Ground Breaking for Break-thru Community Project –
Southeast Raleigh Elementary School and YMCA!

Wake County Public School System partnered with The YMCA of the Triangle on their newest elementary school designed with the community in mind. The Southeast Raleigh Elementary School and YMCA project broke ground on April 11th.

The New Poole Family YMCA in Garner Celebrates Completion!
Garner, North Carolina

The YMCA of the Triangle celebrates the opening of its newest facility. The Poole Family YMCA, located on Aversboro Road in Garner, is complete and opened on March 7, 2018.

The new 39,342 square foot center features a large wellness floor, a gymnasium, a spin studio, workout studios, a multipurpose room, offices, children's care and play space, and support spaces. The outdoor spaces to be completed in the future include an outdoor pool, lap pool, kid's pool, and a pool house along with an amphitheater, outdoor chapel, and a large multi-purpose play field.

EDi Adds Two New Employees - Engineered Designs, Inc. (EDi) recently welcomed Chris Tucker and Joydipto Bose to the firm. Chris is Senior Mechanical Designer whose career in the A/E/C industry began in 1977 as an intern in mechanical engineering while attending college. In the past 40 years, Chris has served as mechanical designer for industrial and pharmaceutical facilities, commercial and retail buildings, healthcare, and educational facilities. His depth of experience and knowledge of multiple project types is a true asset to the firm.

Joydipto (Joy) has been in the engineering industry for five years. He holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from NC State University. As a part of that program, Joy completed a research project where he performed integrated sustainable design for a Net Zero LEED building and conducted the analysis using energy modeling for the HVAC system selection. Through this project and interaction with the local ASHRAE chapter, Joy was introduced to EDi. The firm is pleased to welcome him as Mechanical Engineer Intern.

EDi Employees Enjoy a Solar-bration Party! – EDi employees enjoyed some time outside the office for a solar-bration party complete with a cookout and homemade eclipse viewer competition. Seven people entered viewers of all sizes and levels of complexity. Two winners took home Solar Eclipse 2017 commemorative prizes.
Alan Blumer Joins EDi as Construction Administrator - Engineered Designs, Inc. (EDi) welcomes Alan Blumer to the firm as Construction Administrator. Alan's career in the A/E/C industry began in 2005 as a project manager with a construction company. Since that time, he has served as project manager for Fluor and JLL and most recently served as O&M Operations Manager for Johnson Controls before joining EDi. Alan has provided project management for a variety of projects ranging from $50K up to $175M in construction cost. As Construction Administrator with EDi, his focus is to provide management, administration, and assistance for construction related issues during the course of projects.
Proud to be Part of the RDU CONRAC Project - Engineered Designs, Inc. (EDi) will provide mechanical, electrical, fire protection, and plumbing engineering services for Raleigh-Durham International Airport Authority's consolidated rental car facility (CONRAC) and terminal interface. This facility will be a multi-story parking garage dedicated to a rental car care center, ready/return areas, and a facility for vehicle preparation and fueling. The project will pull together all 11 rental car companies under one roof. The new CONRAC facility is part of RDU's 2040 Master Plan approved by the board last year in October. The project may take up 8 years to complete. EDi is pleased to be a part of the InterVISTAS design team for this project.
